Today’s blog topic is exfoliation if you didn’t already know. We have people ask all the time what is exfoliation and why should I do it. So I’m going to go over all the things you need to know about this subject. by definition Exfoliation is the removal of the oldest dead skin cells on the skin’s outermost surface. When you have excess skin cells on the surface on the skin it makes it very difficult for the hair to penetrate the surface, causing the hair to revert back under the skin ie. ingrown hair. Ingrown hairs can then become infected and cause some serious problems. You want to avoid this at all cost. You can also over exfoliate, this will make the skin irritated, inflamed, and sometimes cause the skin to become more oily. We instruct all of our customers to exfoliate 3 to 4 times a week, this is the optimum amount of times for the best results. We do our part in making sure the hair is removed properly when you come in for a service ,but we need our customers to do their part at home and take care of the waxed area properly to make sure you are getting the BEST results every time.
We have a few products available at our salon to help you with exfoliation and home care. There are two types of exfoliation Manual and Chemical. Everyone needs to be doing manual exfoliation no matter your skin type or hair texture. You should even do this if you are not waxing, it helps your skin be softer and smoother. At Stripped we sell an AMAZING exfoliation sponge that is naturally antifungal, antibacterial and allergen free! This SpaCell sponge can be used on the face but we LOVE it for the Brazilian area it is perfect for getting in all the smaller places you need to reach. We sell these sponges for $12 each and they are worth every penny! You can buy a fabric mitt at any drugstore for around $3 but you have to replace them monthly. One SpaCell should last 6-12 months if you take care of them. They also have other sizes for you back and body, let me know if you would be interested in those and I can order them as well.
The other product we sell is for chemical exfoliation. Chemical exfoliation is for people who have ingrown hairs already, or are prone to them. PFB is a great option to use along with the SpaCells, just make sure you use them on opposite days. PFB has glycolic, salicylic, and lactic acids, these help your cells turn over faster. PFB comes in a roll on bottle so you can spot treat or use it all over the area. This product is great for the Brazilian area as well as underarms and legs. We have two sizes available 2oz for $16 and 4oz for $22.
I hope this blog has helped to clear up some confusion and help you better understand exfoliation. If you have any more questions or an idea for more blog topics please comment or email me at office@strippedwaxing.com
